This exhibition offers a concise but detailed survey of the work of Jackson Pollock from the 1930s to the 1950s when he pioneered the radical abstractions for which he is best known by pouring and dripping paint onto canvas or paper. The exhibition features approximately 50 from the Museum’s collection.

This production of Of Good Stock is smartly cast and easy on the eye, thanks to Santo Loquasto’s multifaceted set of a beautifully lived-in summer cottage on Cape Cod. But everyone in this unpleasant family of narcissists is consumed with herself, and their histrionic posturing is exhausting.

Dame Helen Mirren's incisive, witty, intelligent and sensitive performance was undoubtedly deserving of a Tony award! As evidence of her formidable technique, she convincingly portrays Queen Elizabeth II at various points from her late 20s through to her 80s. Richard McCabe as Harold Wilson was great too.

We had a Volunteers Meeting and then a walk through of the current exhibition: Storylines which brought together over one hundred works from the Guggenheim’s contemporary collection. It examines the diverse ways in which artists today engage narrative through installation, painting, photography, sculpture, video, and performance.

Quite a collection of modern art. The building is very modern with nice views of the city from its terraced outdoor levels. Much nicer design than the bulky building on 75th Street. Have to come back soon, was rushed because of my meeting at the Guggenheim.





New York Philharmonic Concerts in the Park

One of my favorite things to do is listen to good music, with a picnic in the park, a nice bottle of wine, cheeses and other eats. There were no stars and it drizzled a little bit but nonetheless an enjoyable night. Alan Gilbert conducted and Joshua Bell was guest violinist. Beautiful fireworks after Sousa's The Washington Post.

It's a dark and eerie story of 2 sisters, the younger one, Eve, is a vampire, played by Carla Langley, and the other sister is Tabby played by Rendah Heywood. Both gave powerful performances in this debut play by the young playwright Joseph Wilde.
